Frequently asked questions

Is the app really free? +

Yes — the desktop app costs nothing on any platform. Data plans (including a Free tier) power what you build; CVForge AI runs on prepaid credits. You can build with your own Claude Code/Codex subscription and the Free data tier without paying cvforge anything.

Do I need to know how to code? +

No. You describe what you want in plain English and the agent writes the app. That said, everything is inspectable — each app is one readable HTML file — so developers can go as deep as they like.

Which AI agents work with cvforge? +

CVForge AI is built in and needs no setup. Claude Code and Codex run embedded with first-class support (auto-detection, scaffolding, MCP wiring, sessions), and OpenCode is supported too. Anything else that runs in a terminal works in the Shell workspace, and anything that speaks MCP can connect with a personal API key.

Do I need my own data subscriptions (Massive, FMP)? +

No. The data is served by ConvexValue’s backend — options snapshots from Massive and 157 Financial Modeling Prep endpoints — with no vendor accounts or keys of your own.

Is the data real-time? +

The options snapshot updates continuously and the serving database refreshes about once a minute — built for analytics and monitoring, not trade-by-trade tick analysis. Open interest updates daily after the close (as the exchanges publish it). Massive fair market value is an estimate, not an executable option quote. FMP stock/index quotes and prices are a separate dataset and are delayed; fundamentals update as companies file.

Does cvforge provide option quotes or NBBO? +

No. cvforge does not provide option bids, asks, quote sizes, midpoint, NBBO, or last trades. The current option snapshot provides Massive’s proprietary fair market value estimate as its only per-contract valuation field. FMV is not an executable quote and should not be used as one.

What markets are covered? +

All listed U.S. equity and ETF options, plus index options (SPX, VIX, NDX, RUT, XSP) — with equities, ETF, and index fundamentals, filings, estimates, and macro data available through the FMP endpoints. Options coverage is U.S. only today.

Where do my apps live? Who owns them? +

On your machine, as ordinary files in a folder, with git history. They’re yours: share the HTML file, publish to the gallery, or remix a downloaded app. Nothing you build is locked in cvforge.

Is it safe to download apps from the gallery? +

The preview sandbox blocks all network access except the local data proxy (plus chart/font CDNs) and disables WebRTC, so a downloaded app can display your data but has nowhere to send it — and it never sees your API key. Still, download from people you trust, and read the HTML if in doubt.

What happens when I hit my hourly limit? +

Requests return 429 and the app shows a limit notice. The window resets on the hour. If it happens a lot, the next tier up raises the limit 50x (Free→Go) or 50,000/hour (Research).

Can I use the data without the desktop app? +

Yes — that’s the point of the personal API key (Go and Research): call the REST API from Python, a notebook, a spreadsheet, cron jobs, or point any MCP-capable agent at the MCP server. See the developer API docs.

Does cvforge send my code or prompts anywhere? +

Your prompts go to whichever agent you chose (your own Claude/OpenAI account for CLI agents, or the AI gateway for CVForge AI). Apps are stored locally and only uploaded if you publish them. Usage telemetry is a toggle in Settings.

How is this different from the ConvexValue Terminal? +

They are separate products with different data stacks. The Terminal is a finished professional product for high-fidelity live options analytics. cvforge is a blank canvas plus an agent for research tools built on options snapshots, history, financials, and economics.
