Coding agents

cvforge doesn’t ship its own model and make you use it — it embeds your coding agent and hands it everything it needs. Four profiles are supported today, plus a bare shell:

Detection & setup

  • Installed CLIs are auto-detected on your PATH. If one lives somewhere unusual, point cvforge at it with Locate… in Settings → Agents (or clear the override later).
  • Each agent row has Rescan, Check, and a Help guide with install commands. Claude Code additionally gets Run doctor and, on Windows, paste-ready install commands.
  • No agent installed? The dashboard shows a “Set up an agent” banner — or just use CVForge AI.

What cvforge scaffolds into every app

When you create an app, its folder is prepared so any agent lands ready to work:

  • Instructions — a CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md briefing with the hard constraints (edit only index.html, render into #root, CDN libraries only, never touch API keys) and the exact cvApi signatures with working examples.
  • MCP wiring — .mcp.json for Claude Code, .codex/config.toml for Codex, and opencode.json for OpenCode, all pointed at the cvserver MCP server with your key. The agent can inspect live data while it designs, not just at runtime.
  • Runtime bootstrap — cv-bootstrap.js is preloaded in index.html, providing window.cvApi, error capture, and hot reload. Plotly is preloaded for charts.
  • Trust setup — Claude Code and Codex are pre-trusted for the app directory so they don’t stall on first-run permission prompts.

Switching agents

The agent pill in the workspace header switches an app between profiles at any time — build with Claude Code today, touch it up with CVForge AI tomorrow. The choice is remembered per app. Sessions are also per app: CLI agents can continue their last session (auto-continue within 7 days) or resume any recent one from the sessions menu.

Other agents

Anything that can run in a terminal works in the Shell workspace, and anything that speaks MCP can use the MCP server directly with a personal API key. First-class embedded support today is Claude Code and Codex; want another agent embedded? Tell us on the waitlist.
