Workspace & preview

The workspace is where apps get built: the agent pane on the left (a terminal for CLI agents, or the chat pane for CVForge AI) and the live preview on the right, rendering your app’s index.html. Every time the agent saves the file, the preview reloads.

Layout

  • Draggable divider — resize the panes; double-click to reset. The width is remembered per machine.
  • Workspace ↔ preview-only — toggle the agent pane off entirely. Preview-only kills the agent process, so reopening a finished app costs nothing; flip back when you want changes.
  • Sessions menu (CLI agents) — start a new session, continue the last one (auto-continues if it’s under a week old), or pick from your recent resumable sessions with previews.
  • Copy output — one click copies the agent terminal’s output.

Preview toolbar

  • Save — creates a checkpoint; shows “Saved ✓” or “No changes”.
  • History — list of checkpoints with relative times; restore any of them.
  • Open in browser — launches the app in your default browser (same local server).
  • DevTools (⚙) — full Chromium DevTools against the preview for inspecting the page the agent wrote.
  • Reload (↻) — manual refresh.

When something breaks

cvforge assumes AI-written code sometimes fails, and builds the recovery in:

  • Runtime error banner — uncaught errors and promise rejections in the preview surface as “Something broke in the preview” with the details one click away, and a “Tell {agent}” button that pastes a one-line error summary straight into the agent so it can fix its own bug. In preview-only mode it becomes “Open code to fix”.
  • Reload-loop breaker — if a syntax error makes the page reload forever, auto-reload pauses and a banner explains what happened.
  • Preview crash banner — if the preview renderer process dies, you get a one-click Reload.
  • Plan & limit notices — a 402 (needs a paid plan) or 429 (hourly limit reached) from the data backend shows an inline notice with an Upgrade button, rather than failing silently.
  • Agent fallback — if an app’s recorded agent isn’t installed on this machine, cvforge opens it with another one and tells you, with an install guide for the missing CLI.

Security model

The preview is a locked-down, isolated renderer. Its Content-Security-Policy confines the page’s network access to the local preview server (plus a short list of chart/font CDNs for code); WebRTC is disabled. Your data API key lives with the local proxy, never in the page. This is what makes downloaded gallery apps safe to run against your live data: they can render it, but they have nowhere to send it.
